India become Associate Member of CERN

What: India and the European Organisation for the Nuclear Research (CERN) signed an agreement to make India an associate member state of the research organisation.

Where: Mumbai

  • The agreement was signed by Shekhar Basu, Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), and CERN Director General Fabiola Gianotti.

About CERN:
  • CERN is the European Organisation for Nuclear Research.
  • It operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world.
  • It was established on 29 September 1954 with headquarters in Meyrin, Canton of Geneva, Switzerland.
  • CERN is the birthplace of World Wide Web (www).
